ABOUT THE LAMP ROOM
The Lamp Room is a warm, welcoming coffee house and Bistro restaurant that’s situated in a prime location in Seaham Harbour. It prides itself on serving quality barista made coffee and outstanding, freshly prepared food and the owners – Russ and Melanie – have vast experience of owning coffee shops and a genuine passion for providing exceptional quality at an affordable price.
Melanie, originally from Seaham, and who’s family still resides here, understood how much of a thriving community Seaham has become and was delighted to take the opportunity to open a shop in her home town amongst lots of familiar and friendly faces.
The name “The Lamp Room” originates from the room where all miners would visit to collect their lamps prior to going down the shaft to begin a days work in the mine. Each time a miner entered a mine they’d leave their individual lamp token (many of which are displayed in the shop) in the lamp room which was a way of identifying who (if anyone) had not come out of the mine at the end of a shift.
As Seaham is such a close-knit community and one that holds its mining heritage and history close to its heart, choosing to theme the shop in a way relevant to the area was essential.If you visit the Lamp Room you can expect to recieve a warm and comfortable welcome in our simple yet classically designed and decorated shop.
Our menu is extensive and we try our utmost to accomodate for special diets such as vegetarians, gluten-free and dairy-free.
