Perched majestically on the Seaham Harbour, with a view of the seafront is The Lamp Room.

A warm and welcoming all-day bistro.

By day, it’s an oasis offering local breakfast, brunch and lunchtime delights, but as the sun sets, it transforms into a haven for those craving tantalising tapas or the perfect surf ’n’ turf experience.

Picture this: a place steeped in history, where the very name, ‘The Lamp Room’, echoes the legacy of the hardworking miners, gathering their lamps before delving into the depths of the earth. And guess what? We’ve got tokens from those lamps proudly displayed, each telling its own story of toil and triumph.

Seaham isn’t just a place—it’s a tightly-knit community that cherishes its heritage. The name was no fluke; it was a deliberate nod to the town’s past, honouring 3 Seaham collieries that once defined the landscape. Starting from 1845, coal from here travelled across the globe, igniting growth in Seaham. And let’s not forget the harbour—a marvel in itself, boasting a network of interconnecting locks, a rare sight compared to the usual two-wall structures.

But that’s not all! Seaham holds a treasure trove—the renowned sea glass beach, a magnet for collectors worldwide. This vibrant glass, most of which, born from the remnants of the Londonderry Bottleworks, once the mightiest in all of Britain until its closure in 1921, lures seekers hunting for those elusive, rare hues.
